Add to basketSigned and inscribed by the author on the first front end paper ('April 5, 1951, For Bill Parker, with every good wish, Peter Bowman'). Appears to be a book club edition with tiny indented circle at bottom corner of the rear cover. You can see the covers in the photos. There is a bit of soiling on the front and rear, not much. There is a thin vertical crease on the rear cover, also a few small creases near the top edge of the spine. Both spine ends have a little bit of crinkling. There are a few small dents on the edges. I don't see any rubbing there. The corners are in very good shape , no rubbing. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The pages look very clean. There is a very mild crease just off the outer edge of a good many of the pages, maybe something pressed against them. There are no turned-down corner creases or placeholder creases. There is a small nick at the outer edge of a A handful of later pages, nothing much of anything. At the top right-hand corner of all the numbered pages there is a red shape, that's part of the design of the book (see photo). Across the way at the top corners of the facing pages there is the shadow of the red design. I would assume that's the case in every book. It does not interfere with one's ability to read. There's also a little bit of an indent on the red design. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. 'In Beach Red Sergeant Peter Bowman has established a literary beachhead. This is the first novel by a combat author to describe the seizure of a Pacific island from the Japanese. It is the first time that such an action has been narrated in a medium which looks like un-rhymed verse but which Bowman stoutly insists is sprung prose. Prose or verse, it is the best form in which to tell Bowman's story?the thoughts that pass through a soldier's head during one hour of battle. The book was made into a movie of the same name in 1967 starring Cornell Wilde and Rip Torn.
