This copy is signed by the author, with a lengthy inscription mentioning that he began the work in 1846 in collaboration with Washington Irving and completed the work in 1876. This is pushed in 1876. Original black half leather binding with raised bands on the spine. The binding shows wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners. The corners are rubbed through and the board edges are just starting to rub through in places. There are a few repaired tears to the leather spine. The front cover has been neatly repaired archivally, being reattached with binding cloth. Rare signed edition.; 712 pages.
