About this Item
A railroad whose history has been synonymous with that of the heart of the Midwest since 1849. Inscription by Overton on the half-title page reads, "For Ro[samond] and Tom [Thomas Childs] Cochran - Pioneers in railway & business history. The gayest companions ever whether at home or abroad, and cherished friends of all the Overton Family - Cheerio, Dick. Manchester Dept., Vermont, July 20, 1965." Thomas Childs Cochran (April 29, 1902 - May 2, 1999) was an American economic historian and a pioneer in that field. In the mid-20th century, Cochran was one of the most significant economic historians of the United States, producing The Age of Enterprise (1961), an important work on the history of American capitalism. Correction by Overton to text on page 168. 623 pages plus index. Bound in original blue cloth with Burlington logo. Fine in very good and bright price-clipped dust jacket with several tears and some edge wear. A very nice copy. Seller Inventory # 34123
