Item description from seller

This American writer, poet, activist and social reformer edited "Godey's Lady's Book" briefly, and later appeared often as correspondent in the "New York Times"; Abraham Lincoln gave her the nickname "Grace Greenwood the Patriot." AQS, 1p, 5" X 5", n.p., n.y. Very good. On thin, onion-skin type paper, Greenwood boldly pens an 8-line poem in her characteristic purple ink, signing boldly at the close. Titled "In Rome," it reads: "No more the dream, the longing / The pilgrim strays at last! / Amid thy haunted temples, / Thou city of the past, / Whose Eagles led the ages / Wherein their wings unfurled, / Whose Seven Hills pressed a glory, / That domed the ancient world." Possibly -- just possibly -- unpublished, for we find no reference to a published poem by this title or containing this verbiage in the Greenwood literature.
