Item description from seller
One page dated 15 December 1886 on his Boston stationary. Folded as mailed, slight evidence along one edge that the letter was tipped onto a leaf, else near fine. Send the address of an Archdeacon in London and noting "Of course all this controversy is unpleasant. One only hopes & believes that, carried on in the right Christmas Spirit, it must result in good." An Episcopalian clergyman, Rector of Trinity Church in Boston, and author, Brooks couldn't be accused of not trying to foster the Christmas Spirit, writing the lyrics for *O Little Town of Bethlehem.* in 1868. He also introduced Helen Keller to Christianity.
