Full text: "939 "S" Street Wash. D. C. Dear Mr. Niles, I am very much obliged to you for the book you kindly forwarded to me. It is very handsome. I never saw that kind of illustration used in that way before. I think that I would like to see illustrations for a few poems in the future. I am always interested in other material. Yours truly, Carrie W. Clifford." We know nothing about the recipient of this letter. Clifford, an African American, was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was active in the NAACP and the National Association of Colored Women. She was involved in organizing an anti-lynching "Silent Parade" in Washington, DC in 1922. She was the author of two books of poetry ("Race Rhymes" in 1911 and "The Widening Light" in 1922).

Right of cancellation
