Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Sydney, [The Author], 1932. Octavo, 172, [2] pages with numerous illustrations and 17 tipped-in bookplates (2 with colour). Patterned variegated brown cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, all edges uncut; covers slightly bowed; endpapers offset; pastedowns slightly bubbled (probably endemic to the species); overall an excellent copy. Number 163 of 300 signed copies of the standard edition; there was also a deluxe edition of 120 copies. Provenance: Johannes Larsen, with his small name-stamp on the title page and his pictorial bookplate on the front pastedown (this Australian bookplate and its artist, M.G. First edition, first printing. Signed by the Author. Publisher's original brown patterned and embossed cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Illustrated with and containing 114 book plates, including the frontispiece bookplate of the Royal Library at Windsor Castle. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, with some small scuff marks to the boards, the cloth and and gilt lettering bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without stamps or inscriptions. An excellent example. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good. Signed Numbered first Edition. 192pp, index, num bw ills, numerous tipped in book plates (2 colored). Patterned cloth boards. A few small white flecks to cloth, endpapers and page edges evenly toned . One of the standard edition of 315 copies, however this is #13 of 15 publisher's copies- signed and numbered on colophon. Chapters include several on chivalry and heraldry, followed by country and region specific chapters on bookplates. Numerous actual examples are tipped two of which are signed in pencil by the artists ( John B Godson). Other artists represented in the tipped in book-plates include Adrian Feint, Durer, Hogarth, Kate Greenaway, among many others. Also illustrations of many others.Examples of note include the book-plates of Charles Kingsford Smith, Sir Philip Game, Sir Edgeworth David, Robert Clive, Captain FE de Groot, and Sir Douglas Mawson.
