Item description from seller

Variously signed Hubert, Hubert H. or in full, as Senator or Vice President. With a Western Union telegram to Robert McNamara and 2 TLsS from Muriel Humphrey to Margaret McNamara. August 10, 1965: Congratulating him and Meg on their wedding anniverary, "One of the real joys of public life has been the privelege of knowing the McNamaras and serving with you in this government." May 19, 1966: "That was an excellen speech at Montreal. The press reports were good, but the substance of what you had to say was nmuch needed and I predict will have a most favorable reception." May 6, 1966: Sending Margaret photos. May 27, 1966: Congratulating Margaret on a newspaper story about the District school libraries. Dec. 14, 1966: Wishing him a merry Christmas. Jan. 25, 1967: "The report on your remarks to the Women's Forum on National Security was excellent. You gave a beautiful speech. I am convinced that Bob and I ought to turn the speech making over to you and Muriel." April 22, 1967: Thank you note for a gardenia tree plant. June 24, 1967: Regarding open housing in and around Andrews Air Force Base. Sept. 19, 1967: Thanking him for the condolences on the death of his brother. June 7, 1968: ".the tragedy of this past week doesn't leave much room for happiness, particularly to one who was such a good friend of Bob Kennedy. I know how much he admired you, and I know of you great respect and admiration for him. His death is a great loss not only to his personal friends and family but to our country. Despite all that the columnists and others had to say, the relationships between Bob Kennedy and myself were good and friendly. This you know as one of his close friends." June 25, 1971: "Just a brief note to say hello again and to tell you how pleased Muriel and I were to join you and Margie at the Lyndon B. Johnson Library dedication last month." Jan. 17, 1974: Written from Bethesda Medical Center, ". I have been checked, rechecked, tested, retested, examined and rexamined so much that there obviously are no secrets left to be discovered . All of us are indebted to you. What a privelege it was to serve in a government that had people of the quality of Bob or Dean and the others. Washington isn't the same these days. It's not only sad -- in many ways it's pathetic ." Mar. 27, 1974: "I saw you on television Sunday. Your performace was superb. Your message was needed. It just reminded me once again how much we miss you and, at the same time, how much we need you." Variously signed Hubert, Hubert H. or in full, as Senator or Vice President.
