About this Item
Jules Massenet (1842-1912) was a French composer, very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and best known for his operas. In this 1898 autographed letter signed to a good friend, he promises to send along the manuscript for his opera Griselidis as soon as he can, doing everything in my power to complete it by next summer. Massenet is known to have been discussing production of Griselidis with Albert Carre around this time, and it is perhaps to him that this friendly note is addressed. Written in French on two pages of 7" x 3 1/2" note paper. English transcript included. 1" tear to the left margin at the level of the greeting on page one, repaired on the verso with archival tape, as well as two small tears to the bottom margin of the same page, repaired with tape on the verso. On both pages there is light evidence of previous matting. Seller Inventory # A00228
