Add to basketGibbings (1889-1958) was an Irish artist and writer, noted especially for his wood engravings. This was his final book, based on the area around Long Wittenham, Berkshire, where he lived on the banks of the Thames. The title is the second half of the couplet from Spenser's Prothalamion that begins: "Sweet Thames run softly .". He died in January, 1958 - the text had been finalised in January of '57, the woodblocks submitted in March and the book itself was published in October. In view of this, signed copies are scarce. Signed in full on the font free end paper. The book itself is bright and unmarked. The dust jacket lacks a portion at the head of the spine and start of back cover. Photos available on request.
