Oblong quarto, off-white canvas cloth lettered in black with drawing on front cover by Hirschfeld, cobalt blue endpapers; unclipped pictorial red, white, and black French-fold dust jacket. First edition, with 189 illustrations, including 32 plates in full color. A presentation copy, inscribed: "For Lavinia with affection, Hirschfeld, Jan/73," with an self-portrait illustration by Hirschfeld below the inscription. The recipient, Lavinia C. Meeks, a New York City actor, was a childhood friend of the artist's daughter Nina Hirschfeld. Lavinia and Nina both belonged to the Blue Hill Troupe, a Gilbert and Sullivan group, who performed for a variety of charities. A stunning publication with a distinguished provenance.
