This is Volume Two, Distinguished Poets Series of Contemporary Poetry, edited by Mary Owings Miller. Richard Hart (1908-2007) was born in Baltimore. He was a major figure in the Baltimore literary scene that included Zora Neale Hurston, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and H. L. Mencken. He was the head of the Humanities Department at the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Hart joined the staff of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in 1931 and assumed the duties of the Humanities Department Chief in 1940. He held this position until his retirement in 1973. In 1946, he married Evelyn Linthicum, who became the head librarian at the George Peabody Library. They were major figures in the cultural activities in Baltimore. In addition to the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore, Hart was active in the Maryland Poetry Council, the Baltimore Bibliophiles, and a dozen other organizations, including the 1980 Mencken Centennial Committee.
