Add to basketFirst Edition (Number Line to 1). Flat-signed by the author, on the title page. The covers are very clean. However, as you can see, there is a smooth white surface scratch off the bottom edge of the front cover. I would also bring to your attention that the black print on the spine shows some fading. There's also some smooth surface rubbing (little white showing) on part of the bottom edges. The corners are in excellent shape. The spine ends as well. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The inside covers and end papers are gray. They are perfectly clean and unworn. That description applies as well to all of the pages in the book. I'm not seeing any soiling at all. And I'm not seeing any creasing of any kind. There are no markings in the book. No attachments. And with the exception of the author's signature, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The book lacks its dust jacket. This was Claire Messud's debut novel. And she got off to a very good start. When The World Was Steady was nominated for the PEN/Faulkner Award. Messud has taught creative writing at Amherst College, Kenyon College, University of Maryland, Yale University, in the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers in North Carolina, in the Graduate Writing program at The Johns Hopkins University, and at Harvard University. Messud also taught at the Sewanee: The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
