Nielsen gradually pieced his life back together; however, his footballing career remained unfulfilled. Were it not for a call from Kansas City, that might have been the end of the story. The warmth of the Midwest, the passion of Sporting Kansas Citys fans, and the standard of US soccer have given Nielsen a new lease on life. About the Author

Jimmy Nielsen is the caotain of Sporting Kansas City and the 2012 MLS Goalkeeper of the year. He grew up in Denmark and spent 13 years playing for his hometown team, Aalborg BK-starting a club record 398 consecutive games and helping the club to win its second ever natonal championship. During that time, he was twice named as Danish goalkeeper of the year. After that, he had brief spells with Leichester City in England and Vejle in Denmark before joining the Kansas City Wizards as the team was then known in 2010. Since then he has twice been named to the MLS All Star team, and in 2012 he helped Sporting Kansas City win the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. He lives in Kansas City with his wife and two daughters.
