Definitive description of the ducks, swans & geese of the world with fine color plates by Peter Scott. Volume four offers ten essays by Delacour, Hildegarde Howard, Milton W. Weller, Philip S. Humphrey and George A. Clark, Jr. on various aspects of the history of waterfowl & their relations with humans. Both Delacour and Scott were waterfowl experts, each having a large menagerie destroyed in the second World War; Scott, the son of polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott, was also a sailor, Olympic athlete, naval officer, and writer. INSCRIBED by Scott to one Tim Bell on the free endsheet of volume one. Hardcovers, blocked in red, gilt titling. Light wear to book, a bit more to volume one, which also shows minor foxing & 4 pages, 117-120, bound in upside down; bookseller's label (Sotheran, London) inside front cover of volume 4; jacket of volume one spine faded, chipped, torn, missing chunks at the spine ends, mended internally with browned tape; the three other jackets show minor edgewear, large chip to the jacket spine head of volume 2.
