First edition. Arthur Kober (1900-1975), author of plays, short stories (early contributions to the New Yorker), screenplays (approximately 30 films during the 1930's and 1940's) and television (including Leave it to Beaver and My Three Sons), was born in Galicia (part of Austro-Hungarian Empire) to Jewish parents (his family emigrated to New York in 1904). He was married to Lillian Hellman from 1925 to 1932; Kober wrote additional scenes and dialogue for Lillian Hellman's screenplay adaptation of her 1939 play The Little Foxes (the film was released in 1941). Inscribed and signed by Arthur Kober to 'Sid' (author S. J. Perelman) and 'Laura' (a member of the cast?), in year of publication: "For/ Sid and Laura,/ and Adam, if the/ cast will take a cut/ With love,/ Arthur/ June, 1937" (inscribed on the front flyleaf). A nice association copy; Arthur Kober and S. J. Perlman shared a screenplay credit (with two others) for the 1936 film Early to Bed (released by Paramount Pictures); the list of cast credits in the book [on p. xii] lists 'Laura Windsor' as one of the 'Camp Guests' in the original cast (during the Feb. 20th, 1937 production of the play). Green cloth binding has uneven fading and spotting on spine and extremities of covers (green cloth is vulnerable to fading), endpapers are moderately tanned and foxed (offsetting from dust jacket), else a very good copy (printed text is fresh and clean) in good to very good dust jacket. The pictorial dust jacket is quite foxed and worn on front and rear panels (at corners), rear panel is quite creased, tips of spine have a few small chips and creased tears.…
