- Octavo, softcover, bound in printed cream paper over stiff wraps. The covers are stained and chipped with remnants of old tape. The spine has perished and is thus lacking. 155 deckle-edged pages. The front pastedown is torn and there is a tiny tear to the bottom edges of the last few pages. Internally good. First edition of Michael Fraenkel's first book, limited to 400 numbered copies printed by The Saint Catherine Press in Bruge, Belgium.Harvard University's Hollis Catalog suggests the publication date of 1931.Inscribed, signed and dated by Michael Fraenkel on the front endpaper: "To / Shirley M. Uhle / avec mes meilleures sentiments / from / the author / Michael Fraenkel / Mexico, 3rd February, 1944". The Uhles bookplate, depicting a sea horse, is mounted on the front pastedown.Michael Fraenkel is best known for his friendship with Henry Miller, with whom he co-authored the "Hamlet Letters".
