About this Item
Signed First Edition -- plus a signed letter with an interesting association -- of this collection of writings and speeches related to India and American international relations, particularly in the Third World, by a top Cold War era diplomat and two-time U.S. Ambassador to India, Chester Bowles. This copy includes a presentation letter from Bowles to another important international affairs leader of the Cold War and Vietnam War era, Thomas Hughes. Hughes, as head of the State Department's Bureau of Intelligence and Research, was a leading (and prescient) skeptic of escalation of U.S. military engagement in Vietnam early in the President Lyndon Johnson administration. Hughes was later president of the Carnegie Endowment for Peace. Cloth, 276 pages. No dust jacket. Has heavy rubbing on the spine and tanning of the page edges. Seller Inventory # 015034
