Presentation copy with signed inscription by Raine to fellow writer Robert Ames Bennet on front free endpaper: "Robert Ames Bennet, / Best wishes / Wm. M. Raine / 1-4-14." Bennet (1870-1954) was a writer of popular fiction, including many Western stories, published in the pulps and in book form. Today he is perhaps best known for his novel THYRA: A ROMANCE OF THE POLAR PIT (1901), one of the better early lost race novels. A nice association copy. Smith, American Fiction, 1901-1925 R-30.
