Add to basketA very smart first edition of this novella from Irish writer James O'Neill, signed in presentation to Carmen Callil. First edition, first impression. Signed and inscribed by the author to the title page, in presentation to Carmen Callil, an Australian publisher who founded Virago Press in 1973, to "publish books which celebrated women and women's lives, and which would, by so doing, spread the message of women's liberation to the whole population". Virago publish works by new and neglected female authors, publishing the works by authors such as Daphne du Maurier, Sylvia Townsend Warner, Margaret Atwood, and Angela Carter, all with a distinctive green spine synonymous with Virago. A remarkable novella telling the story of what two people can do for each other if they can experiment with trust. Following therapist-in-training James O"Neill, as he starts his placement at a centre in West London. His first referral is Abraham, a silent and frightened young man in a tightly zipped, hooded anorak. Written by Jamie O'Neill, an Irish author best known for his critically acclaimed novel, 'At Swim, Two Boys' (2001), which earned him the highest advance ever paid for an Irish novel and praise as the natural successor to James Joyce, Flann O'Brien and Samuel Beckett. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. The odd page has previously been dogeared. Fine.
