Signed to the half title by the author to journalist Tom McIntyre "To Tom - Our Best Adventure! Enjoy! Terence McKenna Apr '93" First edition, first printing, published by HarperSanFrancisco / Harpercollins in 1993. Hardback, xii plus 237 pages 24x15cm. Near fine condition. With two typed signed letters, the first is dated 11/8/94 and reads "Dear Tom - Thanks for sending me a couple of copies of the piece you did on me in the Examiner magazine. I had heard good things about it but you were the first person who actually thought to send me a copy. How was the feedback? Interesting, I hope. Those were radical words to read on Hearst newsprint! Stay in touch, e mail is probably the most certain, I enjoyed working with you. All the best. Terence McKenna." This letter also comes with the hand written envelope, torn open at one end. The second letter, dated 1/11/95, reads "Dear Tom -- Thanks much for "Correlli's Mandoline" I am a third through it and love it as much or more than the others. My idyllic life here in Hawaii is soon, in two days, to give way to the season of travel and money making that is unavoidable. So I am off to the jungles of Chiapas for a stint of botanical teaching the in Mexican rainforest. I will be in Occidental packing up during the first wo weeks of Feb and then a slough of events hither and yon. I hope you are enjoying the accumulation of novelty as we approach ever closer to the moment of conscresence. Stay alert, all the best in '95" Terence. I have edited the photos to remove the contact information on the letters and envelope. Ethnobotanist and philosopher McKenna's memoir details a 1971 expedition to the Amazon basin with his brother Dennis and friends in search of a mythical plant hallucinogen, leading to bizarre psychic experiments and the beginnings of his theory that psilocybin may be the missing link in the development of human consciousness and language.…
