Manque � McGill, Osler.�dition originale.Elle est divis�e en deux grandes sections dont la premi�re d�crit le goitre (sa structure, son anatomie, l'h�r�dit� et le traitement), la deuxi�me donne des renseignements sur le cr�tinisme en d�butant par un aper�u de son histoire, son �tiologie, son h�r�dit� et son traitement. Connu depuis le moyen �ge, le cr�tinisme est en r�alit� un ensemble de troubles physiques et de retard mental. Il est li� � une insuffisance thyro�dienne due carence iodienne environnementale, notamment dans l'eau potable.Dans son introduction Fabre mentionne plusieurs m�decins ayant travaill� sur le cr�tinisme dont Gaspard Antoine Chatin qui mesurait la quantit� d'iode pr�sente dans l'eau de plusieurs d�partements en France dans les ann�es 1850. Malgr� ses conclusions sa th�orie d'un d�ficit en iode n'est pas consid�r� comme probable et on poursuit encore la voie d'une pathologie tissulaire ou cellulaire propos�e par le docteur Virchow.Les 4 planches lithographi�es par Becquet montrent 4 patients affect�s du cr�tinisme.Exemplaire exceptionnel portant un envoi autographe sign� au faux-titre "A monsieur Ernest Brunet, souvenir amical de la part de l'auteur, J. Fabre".Rare rousseurs, sinon bel exemplaire.

Bernard Clavreuil belongs to the third generation of a family of antiquarian booksellers established in the Quartier Latin since the end of the 19th century. He has been running the shop at 19 rue de Tournon for over 40 years, which had belung to his grandfather before World War I. Thanks to our relentless pursuit to find rare books in France, Europe, and all over the world, Librairie Clavreuil has become one the leading antiquarian bookshops, where curators and bookmen meet to find the items missing in their collections.
