Full leather, gilt decoration and tooling. (7" x 5"). 186 pages, plus publisher's adverts at rear; illustrated 3 plates. "Born Emma Martin in Cromer, Norfolk in 1830. In 1854 she married a banker Hugh Graham Marshall and they lived in Clifton in Bristol, Somerset. In 1861 she started writing novels and by the time of her death had written over 200. Her method was to pick a historic character or famous building and weave a story around it." (wiki). Author's presentation copy with Autograph Letter Signed (ALS) tipped-in. Exterior worn and rubbed, internally clean. Size: Octavo.
