INSCRIBED by Middleton in black ink to flyleaf: 'For Alan Young | I hope this isn't | as musty as the smell | of it indicates? | Best wishes | Christopher Middleton | September 12, 1982.' Publisher's black cloth, with red and silver titles to spine. With the illustrated dust-jacket priced at $3.95 to front flap. Errata slip to pp.1. Internally clean but for some offsetting to endpapers. Mild rubbing and edgewear to jacket with a closed tear to top of front panel. Very good. 'Torse 3' is the first book of poems by Middleton to be published in the United States. Middleton is notable for his highly distinctive use of language and his striking images; some of his most unusual and engaging poems spring from a deep and knowledgeable interest in the modes and sources of modern poetry in Europe.
