A member of the Tolkien Society since 1976, he attended his first Oxonmoot in 1979 and is a regular contributor to each programme. When based in West Yorkshire, he organized the Amon Sūl Smial there from 1980. He was Editor of Mallorn from 1986 to 1990 and one of the organisers of the Tolkien Centenary Conference in 1992. Initially specialising in Elvish Heraldry, he was granted permission by the Tolkien Estate to study Tolkien?s original artwork in the Bodleian Library during the early 1980s. This was later extended to all the pictorial art of Tolkien preserved there and he shared his findings with Christina Scull and Wayne Hammond for their Tolkien Artist & Illustrator book. One of the world experts on Tolkien?s pictorial art, he collaborates with the Aubusson French National Tapestry Museum on their Aubusson Tisse Tolkien project. A close friend to many members of the Tolkien Family especially Priscilla. Having moved back to his native France this spectacular and unique archive of signed Tolkien books is to be sold.
