Bukowski ruminates on women, success, getting published, feminist anger, the writing process, and Beethoven, among other topics in this mid-1980s collection of his short, spare, and quintessentially pithy poems and a few short prose pieces. One of several special limited editions published by Black Sparrow Press that featured original artistic work by Bukowski, in this case a signed acrylic painting on a piece of notepad paper, the torn edge still present at top. This copy is inscribed to his dentist, who often accepted copies of Bukowski's books as partial payment for his bills: "For Mo and Julie / I write it. You get rid of it. That's fair. Hope you can read it too. It's simple stuff and good for the circulation. / Sure, / Charles Bukowski / [doodle]" Quarter-bound patterned cloth and printed paper boards; printed label affixed to spine; orange endpapers; signed ("Buk") painting bound in after copyright page, with wax paper guard First edition, limited issue, one of 126 signed and numbered copies (this is unnumbered, marked "Presentation Copy" in autograph), hand-bound by Earle Gray, with original signed acrylic painting, inscribed opposite title page with doodle.
