William Adams, a foreign service officer, falls in with the Adventurers Club, a circle of multimillionaire New Yorkers who do not merely finance perilous escapades but insist on joining them for the thrill. When the State Department clamps down on the club's riskier projects, Adams proposes a substitute: members will carry large sums of cash across Manhattan along a route published in advance -- which means the underworld will know it too. It is a variation on the tiger game, in which a live goat is staked out to draw the tiger. The first run leaves the club two adventurers short, each shot by the other, and Adams does not believe it was a duel. 221 pages. Very Good in a Good dust jacket: edge wear and small edge tears to the jacket, light edge wear to the boards, and tanning to the page ends.
