Three Books: The Feather Merchants, The Zebra Derby & Rally Round the Flag, Boys!

Three books by Max Shulman, all first editions: (1) The Feather Merchants, "a hilarious satire on the civilian war effort" published by Doubleday, Doran and Co., Inc., Garden City, New York, 1944. Chapter head illustrations by William Crawford. Very good plus book in very good dust jacket. Brick red cloth covered boards with black illustration on front panel, black lettering on spine. Boards are clean, lettering and illustration are crisp. Slight crimping at head and tail of board spine. External page edges are age-toned. Previous owner's name/date on FFEP. Text pages are also age-toned, else internally clean with snug text block. Dust jacket is lightly soiled against the cream colored background. Several chips and rubs along edges at head and tail of jacket spine. Two small (1/4" by 1/8" and 1/8" by 1/16") on the upper right corner of back jacket panel. Upper right front fore-edge corner has 1" closed diagonal tear. Upper edge of front panel has 1/2" closed vertical tear to left of center. Lower edge of front jacket panel has 1/2" closed vertical tear with adjacent diagonal creases. Fore-edge corners are rubbed and creased with minimal loss. All inside flap corners are uniformly clipped. Price of $2.00 is intact. (2) The Zebra Derby published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, 1946. Illustrated by Bill Crawford. Very good book in good dust jacket. Signed by the author on the FFEP. Pinkish cloth covered boards with black illustration on front panel, black lettering on spine. Extremities are sunned. Board spine has a shallow vertical crease down the center; head and tail of board spine are crimped and corners are close to fraying. Previous owner's names on front paste down and inscription on FFEP. Page edges and text are age-toned. Shadow transfer on pp. 100-101, else book is internally clean. Text block is snug. Dust jacket is soiled overall. Significant loss at tail of spine, additional loss at head of spine and fore-edge corners. Several large closed tears including separations on folds - see photo. All inside flap corners are uniformly clipped. Price of $2.00 is intact. (3) Rally Round the Flag, Boys! "A wonderfully funny novel about love and missiles." Published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, 1957. Very good book in very good dust jacket. Signed by the author on the FFEP. Yellow cloth covered boards with blue lettering on spine. Upper external page edges are yellow tinted. Front board panel has faint round damp mark (approx. 2 1/2"). Outermost board edges are sunned. Crimping at head and tail of board spine and upper left corner of front panel is bumped. Oval damp stain of 7/8" by 3/8" on upper external page edges; side and lower external edges are age-toned. One dog-eared page. Text block is internally clean and snug. Dust jacket is soiled overall. Jacket spine has a number of damp staines. Several chips with loss of up to 1/8" along edges at head and tail of jacket spine. Front corner at head of spine has 77/8" closed vertical tear along the fold. Upper edge of front panel has 1/2" closed vertical tear in the center. Upper edge of back jacket ket panel has several closed vertical tears of up to 3/8" and with adjacent horizontal creases. Upper edge of back panel has several chips of 3/8" or less; all fore-edge corners are rubbed with loss of up to 1/4". Fore-edge folds are creased and scuffed but not rubbed through.
