Item description from seller

Slim 4to., 32(8)pp. Beautiful First Edition of this privately printed discourse on how Hardy should be classified and the impact it may have on any lasting popularity. Bound quarter blue cloth over light blue paper-covered boards. Titles in blue upon white paper labels on front board and spine. Illustrated with facsimiles of a number of Hardy's letters held at that time in Newton's "Oak Knoll" library. 950 unnumbered copies published. Square tight and clean throughout with little or no wear. Original glassine wrapper is mildly toned and has a couple of short closed tears, chips and creases. Decorative contemporary bookplate on the front paste-down. Laid in is the original publisher's prospectus which is quite uncommon. . Housed in a fine publisher's cloth slipcase which has a touch of rubbing but little wear otherwise. Most copies were presented in a cardboard box. This copy may very well have been one of a few that was stated to be retained by the author for presentation purposes. Very scarce compared to the number of boxed copies available. Inscribed, signed and dated by the author on the front end-paper, "This small venture in honor of a great man promises to be entirely successful. Initiated (sp?) at the request of Mr. F. A. Kilmer. September, 1929". A beautiful collectable copy. …
