12mo. 106 pages. Hardcover with a brown dust jacket, now in mylar. The jacket has a blue "Signed" label taped to the inside of the mylar at the foot of the spine. The jacket shows some rubbing and edge wear with a little creasing along the top edge of the front panel. The jacket also has some foxing. Map endpapers. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED on the half title page, "To Dick and Grace with Best Regards, Melvyn McCoy, Cmdr US Navy". The text is toned but is generally clean. First Edition with the Rinehart logo on the copyright page. McCoy and Mellnick were part of the only mass escape (about 10 Americans and 2 Filipinos) from a Japanese POW work camp after the brutal Bataan Death March. They escaped on 4 April, 1943 and by using mountain trails through enemy territory managed to evade Japanese patrols. McCoy later received the Distinguished Service Cross for heroism in action.
