First edition book, with ALS. One page letter from author pasted in. Rear board discolored, with bleeding to rear end paper edges. Letter thanks an unnamed reader, and ends with "be sure to let Sir Herbert Riseley how glad I shall be to read further of this interesting story; I don't say anything to make him stop his interesting experiment!" Despite the extra "e" , this may refer to the anthropologist Herbert Hope Risley, who died a year after this collection was published. Risely studied the Hindu caste system in India. Phillpotts himself was born in India. A collection of short stories, including one presumed supernatural, The Ghost of Miser Brimpson. Seller Inventory # 013731
