SIGNED in full & briefly INSCRIBED by the AFL football champion in black ink on title page: "To Anne & Julie. [small heart doodle drawing] & Go Dees. Jim Stynes". Introductory note by Ron Barassi. Illustrated with b&w and colour photographs. From rear cover (in full): "An Irish youth is plucked from the playing fields of Dublin to play a unique code of football on the other side of the world. Jim Stynes not only adapts to a new code, but establishes himself as a great footballer in the Australian Football League. In fact, he receives the game's highest accolade - the 1991 Brownlow Medal as the fairest and best in the AFL competition. Jim Stynes takes you on an incredible journey, from the Irish Civil War and his family's Gaelic football background to costing Melbourne a berth in a grand final and later coping with the pressures of success, injuries and loss of form. This book tells of Stynes' determination and passion to do whatever it takes to succeed in life and in football. This is an uplifting story of a man who refuses to accept second best. This book is much more than just a football story". Printed in Australia. Slight handling wear, otherwise a very nice clean tight solid softcover copy. viii + 214pp. Uncommon title, scarce signed copy. SB-51.…
