First edition, first printing. Extensively inscribed by both Cathy O’Brien and Mark Phillips to the same recipient, accompanied by a laid-in handwritten personal note from Phillips that specifically identifies the enclosed volume as the promised “1st edition” and refers to the forthcoming fourth printing. An exceptional author-inscribed presentation copy with unusually strong publication-history documentation. Privately published by Global Trance Formation Info Ltd., Nashville, Tennessee, in September 1995. Original illustrated softcover wraps, 8vo, 256 pages. The copyright page expressly states: “First Edition Privately Published in the United States of America,” followed by the September 1995 publication date. The original bound-in order form also refers to the “1995 first printing.” The title page and facing page contain extensive personal inscriptions to “Kris” by both authors. Cathy O’Brien has written in blue ink: “To Kris, Knowledge is our only defense against mind control, and I appreciate your support of this endeavor to Spread the Word! Cathy O’Brien.” Mark Phillips has filled much of the lower title page with a separate, lengthy black-ink inscription thanking Kris for continued support of their work and personally signing the presentation. Also included is a laid-in handwritten note from Phillips, dated June 28, 1997, beginning “Dear Kris.” Phillips thanks the recipient for remaining in contact, presents the enclosed copy as the first edition he had promised, and notes that another printing was about to be produced. The note is signed simply “Mark.” The letter is especially significant because it establishes a direct personal connection between the recipient and the authors while providing contemporaneous evidence concerning the book’s early printing history. Together, the copyright statement, original order form, inscriptions, and Phillips correspondence provide unusually persuasive first-edition and first-printing documentation. This is substantially more desirable than an ordinary signed copy. It combines the scarce privately published 1995 first edition with extensive inscriptions from both authors, personal correspondence, identifiable recipient continuity, and exceptional condition. A distinctive collector’s copy of a controversial and widely collected work within the fields of conspiracy literature, intelligence studies, MK-Ultra and mind-control literature, alternative history, and privately published American fringe material. Photographs show the actual book and accompanying note offered for sale. Condition Description Very Good+ condition, presenting close to Near Fine. The book appears very lightly handled and possibly unread. The binding is tight, square, and sound, with no looseness or structural weakness. The spine remains uncreased. The text block is clean and free from highlighting, underlining, marginal annotations, or previous-owner markings apart from the extensive author inscriptions described above. Original illustrated wraps remain bright and well preserved, showing only extremely light age-related shelf and handling wear. There is a single small approximately 1/8-inch spot or stain on the fore-edge. No other significant stains, tears, creases, missing pages, or condition problems observed. The laid-in handwritten note is in Very Good condition, with original folds, light creasing, and minor handling wear consistent with personal correspondence retained since 1997. An outstanding example of the first edition, conservatively graded. Seller’s Note: Offered for collectible, historical, bibliographic, and research purposes only.
