Signed Limited Edition, the first edition with Rackham illustrations. Large 4to. Number 226 of 520 copies, printed on hand made paper and signed by Rackham. Finely bound in full brown morocco by Zaehnsdorf, with gilt vignette and titles, gilt turn-ins and raised bands on the spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed with marble end papers. A stunning copy, in a sumptuous binding. Elaborately decorated title page, twenty-one tipped in colour plates, one of which appears only in this edition, and numerous line drawings and vignettes in the text. The magic of Shakespeare's play, with the lively spirit Ariel, Caliban the monster, a ship wreck and love story all create the perfect foil for Rackham's pen. His drawings for this book mark something of a departure from earlier work, introducing a bolder style and colour palette, whilst losing none of his humour or attention to detail.
