Presumed first edition (no direct statement provided) INSCRIBED, DATED, AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [10], 322 pages. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Blue cloth; obtrusive surface mottling to spine affecting title and author lettering; tearing/fraying and bumping to spine ends; lighter mottling to boards. Edges and leaves toned. Author's five-line ink inscription "To | J.H. Thickens, Esq. | with best wishes | James Stuart Montgomery | Aug. 19, 1930" upon front flyleaf. Binding is firm. Book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which modestly enhances shelf presence. Acquired from a Laurel, Mississippi estate; inscribee was Laurel resident John Herman Thickens (1884-1946) who was production vice-president of Mason Fibre Company (later Masonite Corporation), vice-president of Laurel's Commercial National Bank and Trust Company, and a director of the New Orleans and Northeastern Railroad.
