Inscribed to Harold Adams by Samuel Looker, New Year 1951. Adams was founder of the Richard Jefferies Society. Looker devoted himself to Jefferies for over half a century, publishing numerous volumes of journalistic material which had never previously been re-printed, and new matter from diaries, notebooks and unfinished manuscripts that he had tracked down. Looker's biography: 'Richard Jefferies: Man of the Fields' was published after the author's death in 1965. In its earliest form, Rossetti's poem, 'The Staff and Scrip', was first published in 'The Oxford and Cambridge Magazine' in 1856. It had been planned and begun some years earlier, being founded on a story in the 'Gesta Romanorum'. Rossetti afterwards revised it and added some new stanzas. In its present completed form it first appeared in the volume of his 'Poems' published in 1881. This is the first standalone version. A must-have for Rossetti and Jefferies collectors alike. Original limp card wrappers with minor wear. Occasional and trivial spots to title and a few other pages.
