Original cloth, price-clipped wrappers, map endpapers; pp. 460; sketch maps and plates after photographs; marginal wear and loss to wrappers; light offsetting to endpapers and from frontispiece to title-pag, a good copy.First edition, first printing, boldly signed by the author on title-page and dated 1980. Glubb Pasha, as he is known, went to Iraq in 1920 as an officer in the British Army. Later he became Commander of the army of the Trans-Jordanian state and developed deep love and admiration for the Arab people. These are his memoirs up to 1956, when he had to leave Jordan because of rising tensions in the Middle East, and the Cold War. He writes with passion and criticizes the conduct of the Western powers in the Middle East. An important and increasingly rare book.
