David Hackworth as Chief of Intelligence in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam; also served as Naval Attache to U.S. Embassies, Stockholm and Oslo: "For Verner Carlson, With admiration and gratitude for his outstanding and effective service to our country, all over Scandanavia and elsewhere as one of the finest intelligence officers I know. With warm personal regards and every good wish for continued health, happiness and success. Verner A. Walters. Jan l987" Also affixed a letter from then Major General Walters to a Colonel Johnson, from Paris, 19 September l969: "Dear Colonel Johnson, Many thanks to you and to Lt. Colonel Carlson for all your kindness while I was in Stockholm recently. I trust that our paths will cross again and that you will give me the opportunity of reciprocating in some small measure for what you did for me. With every good wish, Faithfully, Vernon A. Walters."
