About this Item
A framed, mounted & matted original cartoon drawing by George Clark presented to New York City bookseller Fanny Duschnes. Size of old dark brown finished wood, glass-fronted frame: 12 1/2 x 16", with cardboard backing, hanging wire in back. A fine pencil & charcoal drawing with white ink "write-out" on some lines; size: 8 x 10 1/2", showing a fully dressed husband & wife sitting at the breakfast table with cereal bowl, coffee pot, cups, etc. The husband in suit & tie & wearing round glasses is letting slip two sections of newspaper from the table top while raising his left hand, his wife in dress & high heels, seated in a chair, has her head propped against her hand while looking at him. The background shows a fancy cabinet with plates, etc., cabinet doors, etc. Date in lower left corner looks like 5-7-[37 ?], followed by the semi-removed printed label mentioned above. Under the mounted cartoon on card, Clark has written the caption out longhand in ink on the backing that the card is mounted on, reading: "All right, I'm listening-what is it you have to say that's more important than the latest political developments?" In the top left corner of the cartoon Clark has written his signed presentation: To Fanny Duschnes From Geo Clark. Scarce item! Very little original, signed George Clark material is available today. Provenance: Once hung in Philip & Fanny Duschnes New York City Bookshop, later purchased at a shelf sale of items from their shop. Not archively framed. Matting shows some age tanning not affecting cartoon. Weight: 2 lbs. Seller Inventory # ABE-97091632
