The first American printing, in wrappers, published by The Grove Press in 1956. ( There was a hardcover printing of 100 copies. ) Evergreen Book number E - 57. A near fine copy with some light soiling to the wrappers. The Grove Press issue in America would appear to be considerably more uncommon than the first British edition published by Faber and Faber. Lawrence Durrell has signed this copy and underlined it as well to the dedication page. ( Durrell dedicated this book to his daughters ' Ping-Ku and Sappho-Jane. ).
