Item description from seller

A scarce first edition copy of this Anglican work, with a signed dedication to a relation of the author. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the work. The first edition of the work. With a dedication from the author to the front blank: 'R Longueville From The Author T.L 8 July 87'. Whilst little is known of the author, owing to the surname, we believe this work to be dedicated to a relative of the author. This fascinating work is a fictional tale exploring the process of canonization in the Church of England. Written by 'The Prig' which is defined as a self-righteous moralistic person. 'The Prig' is a pseudonym for Thomas Longueville, an author of several works including Pryings among Private Papers, and The Life of Sir Kenelm Digby. In a red and black cloth binding. Externally very smart with just some slight bumping to the extremities and the head and tail of the spine. A few light marks to the boards.Small puncture mark to the rear board. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Dedication from the author to front blank. Very Good.
