Family association copy. Presumed first edition (no direct statement provided but with matching dates upon title and copyright pages) INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS NEPHEW. [2], i-xvii, [1], 1-531 pages. Hardcover: H 28.5cm x L 22cm. Red dust jacket rubbed; foxing to front panel; rippling along spine; short tears, bumping, and scuffing at edges; front flap retains publisher's printed price at top right. Dark orange cloth; spine ends and boards' top fore-edge corners bumped; gilt stamping to spine and front board remains fairly bright. Top edge foxed; negligible stain at fore-edge heel. Light toning to endpapers; slight soiling and patch of surface peeling not affecting text on pages on title leaf verso and opposing page i; author's twelve-line ink inscription "To Paul . . . Uncle Pat" on front free endpaper (the author signing with his preferred familiar name with the inscribee being his nephew); interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. With unmarked service record forms reproduced on front and rear pastedowns, b/w photographs, illustrations, and maps. A history of the 141st Field Artillery of New Orleans during World War II. The unit is one of the oldest and most famous in the U.S. Army having been organized in September 1838. The text concludes with Louisiana casualty lists for WW II on pages 467-531. The book was acquired from the estate of the author's brother Birmingham, Alabama pathologist Dr. Albert Eugene Casey (1903-1982) and medical researcher Joanne Gunn Casey (1919-2023) whose son Paul Casey is the inscribee.
