1st Printing. Signed. 182 pages. Published in 2018. The third volume of the author's quartet. One of Karl Ove Knausgaard's finest achievements. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United Kingdom. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the American Edition. Published in a regular first print run as a hardcover original only. The British Edition is superior in every respect to the American. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Karl Ove Knausgaard's "Om varen" in a felicitous English translation. The third of four volumes conceived and written around the Four Seasons. Beautifully ilustrated with Anna Bjerger's art. As ever, Knausgaard appropriates a very old concept in order to breathe new life into it. It is astonishing how what Spring means universally - renewal - becomes, in his hands, an intimate and deeply fraught narrative, and is thus singularly renewed: "Knausgaard must tell his daughter the story of what happened during the time when her mother was pregnant. In order to keep his daughter safe, he must tell a terrible story, one which unfolds with acute psychological suspense over the course of a single day" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for Karl Ove Knausgaard collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed, placed, and dated in black ink-pen on the title page by the author: "London, 4/10/23 Karl Ove Knausgaard". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Even more important, Knausgaard's signature on this copy is one of the very best we have ever seen - considering that his serpentine signature does change quite a bit. This title is a contemporary classic. As far as we know, this is the only copy of "Spring" First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (British) that Knausgaard signed in full, is available online, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. ALL other so-called signed copies available online are swirled. Please note: Extreme demand and time constraint have made Knausgaard resort to an Ondaatje-like swirl of a signature. Copies signed in this drastically abbreviated way have no collectible value. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. - Book 3 of 4: Seasons Quartet
Spring is a deeply moving novel about family, our everyday lives, our joys and our struggles, beautifully illustrated by Anna Bjerger.
I have just finished writing this book for you. What happened that summer nearly three years ago, and its repercussions, are long since over. Sometimes it hurts to live, but there is always something to live for.
Spring follows a father and his newborn daughter through one day in April, from sunrise to sunset. It is a day filled with the small joys of family life, but also its deep struggles. With this striking novel in the Seasons quartet, Karl Ove Knausgaard reflects uncompromisingly on life's darkest moments and what can sustain us through them.
Utterly gripping and brilliantly rendered in Knausgaard's famously pensive and honest style, Spring is the account of a shocking and heartbreaking familial trauma and the emotional epicentre of this singular literary series.
