About this Item
Frontispiece, with 16 pp. photographs. First edition, limited to 1,054 copies. Founded in 1853 by W.K. Osborn to service the burgeoning population of reprobates following the gold rush, the San Francisco YMCA is the city's oldest social service institution, bearing witness to and playing a role in the larger history of California's most important 19th century town. Signed by Drury on the title page, and additional inscribed by him on the dedication page. Laid is some related ephemera, including a typed letter signed (TLS) from Drury to Roy Sorenson, the fifth Managing Director of the San Francisco Association. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt stamping. A bit of mild wear along the bottom edge of the boards. The dust jacket is slightly rubbed; otherwise a very good copy. Inscribed by Author.
