Add to basket[Chicano Literature] Anaya, Rudolfo. Tortuga. Berkeley, California: Editorial Justa Publications. 1979. First stated edition, first printing. Signed by the author on title page. Soft cover. 8vo; 197pp. Trade PB in illustrated wraps. Anaya spearheaded the Chicano literature movement as he wrote on themes of Chicano culture and heritage that were uncommon for the 1960s. Based on his own experiences as a Mexican American growing up in New Mexico, Tortuga is a fictional novel inspired by an event that occurred in his own life as a child sustaining injuries after a pool accident. The novel examines the concept of healing not merely as a physical recovery, but as a spiritual process of finding one's roots, inner strength, and community belonging. Spine slant, wraps soiled, bent bottom corners, 1/2" tear bottom rear panel, one dog-eared corner; binding firm, interior clean and unmarked. Overall very good condition.
