Item description from seller

8vo., 433pp. Sharp Stated First Printing . Bound in brown with gilt and black titles on spine. Square, tight and clean throughout with little wear. Spine gilt a bit dulled. A small bit of separation from the cloth and text-block at the crown but quite minor. Equally attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($4.50), has a few minuscule closed edge-tears and a and some faint associated creases. A touch of soiling on the rear panel. Still fresh and bright. Inscribed, signed and dated by the author on the front end-paper. "7 May, 1956 To Igor Kropotkin--- If you have survived Russian Easter, I hope you can surmount my little children's story! With best regards from, Ivan Obolensky". Igor Knopotkin, (1918-1987), was best known for being President of Scribner Bookstores. He was also President of the American Booksellers Association. A very pretty collectable copy of the author's first bok and surprisingly uncommon in nice condition, particularly signed. Plus a terrific association.
