(Many hundreds of photo illustrations of arms and arms components). ABOUT THE AUTHOR George Shumway (1928-2011) researched, wrote, photographed, and published information on the history and art of longrifles and related subjects for over 30 years. He was fascinated in the old long rifles from the first time he saw one as a teenager. In 1962 he moved with his family to York, PA to pursue his interest in the art and history of the area. York was an important gun making center in the late 17th and early 19th century. He established George Shumway Publisher to write, research, photograph, and publish information on antique longrifles and early Americana. One of his first books was THE CONESTOGA WAGON. He then created The Longrifle Series, which included over eight titles on the subject. George received the Distinguished Service Award from the Kentucky Rifle Association and the Contemporary Longrifle Associations Education Award. As a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, he contributed articles for the publication Muzzle Blasts for 32 years. CONDITION REPORT The book is in VERY GOOD+ condition. Front hinge a little loose with some spine lean. Light rubbing to edges. A small mark on back board and a small spot on rear pastedown. Sharp corners. Clean and colorful cloth. Interior is clean and bright with no foxing, writing, ex libris marks or bookplates. The dust jacket is VERY GOOD - slightly sun-faded spine, light edge wear - a few tiny tears, creases and chips.
