Item description from seller

A signed first edition presentation volume of Canadian poetry, with interesting provenance. A first edition, bound in publisher's original red cloth. Decorated with gilt motif and lettering to front board. A very scarce signed presentation copy by the English-born Canadian poet dubbed "The Bard of the Yukon". Signed and inscribed to the half title. The inscription reads: 'To Howard Robertson, with very best regard from you friend, Robert W. Service. Paris, Nov 16.' A collection of verse concerned with the contemporary First World War. In this vein, the book is dedicated: 'to the memory of my brother Lieutenant Albert Service', who was killed in action in August, 1916, while stationed in France. Featuring a note sent and signed by Australian architect, interior designer and writer Doris Robertson. Robertson was one of the first generation of professionally trained female architects, having studied at the Architectural Association. Doris Robertson was also the wife of American-born British architect Sir Howard Morley Robertson, who was appointed as the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects from 1952-1954. Their home address at 59 Montagu Square is printed on the card. The note reads: 'My dear John, It seems that I have found another signed Robert Service for your collection. Hope all goes well with you, Blessings, Doris Robertson'. Bound in original red cloth. Externally, generally smart. Book has a moderate backwards lean. Moderate bumping and rubbing to extremities. Moderate fading to spine. Small loss and lifting to head at rear joint. Occasional moderate marks to boards. Moderate age toning to endpapers. Moderate tide mark to front free endpaper. Mild rubbing to front board gilt detail. Internally, firmly bound, with infrequent mild to moderate strain. Pages generally bright and clean, with occasional moderate age toning and the odd spot. Moderate age toning and the odd mark to text block edges. Very Good.…
