[2], ii, 220, 104, 47, [1], 97-108, xiv, [2 (advts.) pp. 38 plates (some folding). Orig. patterned-paper over boards and cloth spine with printed paper spine label. Housed in custom cloth slipcase with chemise. The cloth at both joints is separating, but the boards remain attached but fragile. Contents clean. A good copy. P&W 5116. Very scarce in this condition. Contains printed music for the bugle calls. Wheeler was Chief of Cavalry of the Army of Tennessee, and this manual is one of the few that was formulated solely for Confederate use. This copy with a bookplate signed and inscribed by Wheeler on the front pastedown. Opposite this on the front free endpaper are mounted a contemporary review titled: "Wheeler as Author," above the bookplate of Benjamin DeForest Curtiss.
