Octavo, 391pp., illustrated. A good copy in the publsiher's red cloth with lighter red cloth spine. Dampstain to the base of the spine, visible on the first five or six leaves. In like dust jacket, with commensurate stain, and some cihips and tears to extremities. With all faults, still a wonderful copy, SIGNED by Minnelli on the front free endpaper. On the same page is an inked gift inscription from Ira and Leonore ["Lee"], in Lee's hand, presenting the book to married actors Sam Jaffe and Bettye Ackerman (so identified by a laid-in card from the previous bookseller): "For Dear Bettye and Sam, with endless love from Ira and Lee, and [Vincente Minnelli's autograph appears below]. Sept 1974 Beverly Hills." Minnelli and Ira Gershwin were good friends and colleagues; Minnelli notably directed the 1951 film "An American in Paris," based on the music by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira. Both Ira and Lee Gershwin are referenced on more than a dozen pages--each--in the Index to this autobiography. Though well-worn, a nevertheless appealing association copy, which brings together five Hollywood notables.
